Associacion Espanola Contra el Cancer
A ladies social club, our vision is to unite all women in the local area, to share gossip and simply have a fun time supporting one another as friends through the good and the bad times. To socialise in a friendly environment that is non-judgemental, that accepts all women.
It all started in El Pinar de Campoverde, when Debbie mother of two, grandmother of Lillie (3 and half) and a former college FE and HE Double Curriculum Manager and Principal Lecturer in Complimentary Therapies, decided that there was a need for a ladies club, after the men seemed to be having such a good time. Debbie decided she would use her organisational and interpersonal skills and put them to use, so while the husbands and partners are playing golf the girls are having their own sort of fun.
Members range from 18 to 90 most members are British but we now have a few members from, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Belgium and Spain. There are currently over 280 members on the books and grows from strength to strength. If you live in or around El Pinar de Campoverde, Torre de la Horadada, Villamartin or have a holiday home here, you will always be welcome to join our club, you can come and have a look, before you join, you will not be disappointed. Partners' friends and families have the opportunity to partake in events that are open to them, at the same discounted price. We are non-profit making and the €2 subs paid at Social Meetings, helps towards some of the costs of the day to day running of the club.
Once you become a member (only €10) you receive a monthly newsletter, letting you know what's going on, the Social Meetings are monthly, and offer free buffet's or discount 2 course meals, with a presentation and prizes for the raffle. Sophisticattzz also raises money for various charities, we are always looking for volunteers that want to help out at charity events etc. Debbie understands the difficulty everyone is having with the credit crunch, low exchange rates and does her best to keep the prices of events/days/evenings out at very reasonable prices. Debbie has a steering group that provide advice and support.
The club aims to create interest's
that accommodate every member. If it's not a ladies lunch, or social evening with putting and darts, it might be a
champagne breakfast, horse riding in the mountains, hot-air ballooning, cross stitch or art classes, Christmas
shopping in New York, walking in the Rio Seco, taking part in a who dun nit murder mystery, or being a fashion
model in one of the many fashion shows we have organised. During the month, Sophisticattzz organises something for
everyone, the classes are very popular, and the teachers are all professional, follow the links above to read more.
Debbie has a daughter Liz that also wants to have fun, and a mother Betty that has retired and thoroughly enjoys taking part in the club. Betty was always very active, but has recently been diagnosed with several arthritis diseases and suffers a lot of pain and stiffness, this meant she was unable to keep the sports up she so much enjoyed and felt a bit bored, so Debbie thought about how there must be many more women suffering like Betty and how a ladies club would bring women together and they could share mutual interests and hobbies. Sophisticattzz is a very large group of ladies and some of the ladies have lost their partners and felt vulnerable. Being part of a supportive fun loving group has given them a purpose in life and they are now actively involved in things that they can happily achieve. Debbie works hard during the month and is always looking for new ideas, she believes in positive thinking, and using her intuition and imagination to invent lots of the events, many of the ladies have thanked Debbie over Christmas for her commitment to the club.
Sophisticattzz has
many friends in businesses and they have kindly donated to the club. Raffles have been supported by the Giftbox
and many of the ladies have received beautiful gifts from the jeweller Fiona via raffle prizes. The English Rose,
Pauline has been very generous and the ladies have received flower arrangements donated by Pauline. Sophisticattzz
continues to need support, if you can donate to the club please contact Debbie. Many of the restaurants and bars
in El Pinar de Campoverde have been very supportive too, donating meals, wine, memberships etc. Debbie would
personally like to thank the many lady volunteers that have been so supportive and continue to help out at the
Social Meetings! Our host bars, Pasty Shack and Treetops at El Pinar de Campoverde, the Greenwich at Torre de la
Horadada and various restaurants in and around Villamartin. Brian is our volunteer resident Photographer.
